The Wheels on the Car Go...

to deliver meals, of course!

It's official. Whew, we passed the application process, so Mini #2 and I will begin delivering a weekly Meals on Wheels route. (I didn't lose Mini #1, he will be in school those mornings, but will join us over the summer.)

You can never start too early working these children...I mean she is almost 16 months and she is walking pretty steadily (I bet her and some of the meal recipients could have races.) She can carry babies and blocks, so a box meal shouldn't be too hard for her to get up to the door. She also has a smile that is contagious and the older generation just seem to want more of my sweet Mini #2.

My grandmother delivered Meals on Wheels for almost 20 years and each summer as a child when I would visit her, she would take me with her on her weekly route. I would go to the door with her and would visit with some of the recipients. I didn't appreciate it as a child, but I always noticed how much my grandmother volunteered and gave back.

I have been thinking about it for a while and last week, just decided to do it. Especially after losing my grandmother last fall and knowing how much my children truly were the light to her life.

We have 26 people on our route and I hope this is a good experience for all of us. It is a small thing, but I so desperately want my children to grow up to appreciate things, be humble, and want to help others.
We are also going to start donating some of Molly Lou Gifts' profits to the Meals on Wheels of Anderson County. More details on that to come.
Have a great weekend!
PS-Mini #1 had a GREAT day at school yesterday and got some extra good notes written on his papers and in his folder. I'm sure it was due to all of the happy green face thoughts you sent...THNAKS!

  5. Good for you! And it's great that you're exposing your kids to volunteerism at such an early age. We need more of this kind of generosity in the world.

  10. It's so strange that you are writing about MOW. I was listening to the radio while showering this morning and they were interviewing our local MOW organizer. The things she said really stuck with me all day and I couldn't stop thinking about it and talking about it. Mr. T and I decided that we were going to apply to deliver meals. I think it's so wonderful that you are doing this with your children and I agree with you, it is never to early to start. :)
