Box of Memories

Happy Monday. Hope you all had a great weekend. I can't believe it is FEBRUARY already!!

I love Family Fun magazine. It is always full of interesting and fun ideas. This month's issue had an article called "OurBox of Memories" and it told of one family's tradition.

The have box and each night at dinner they write a few sentences about what they did that day on an index card. They store each day's card in an old greeting card box filing them by day. This is their way to capture the little moments-new fish, friend's visit, zoo trip, no cavity trip to dentist, etc.

I thought this was a great idea and something that our family could and should do. This would be especially great since Mr. is gone during the week...there might be little things that I forget to tell him that are big in the Minis minds. I also thought that for now, we could write our sentences and then Mini #1 could draw a picture on the bottom.

As much as I want to write a full out diary/journal, it just ain't happening so far. This way we can do this as a family and it is becoming part of our dinner routine.

For our box, I painted a plain wood box, then used my handy dandy Cricut to cut out these lovelies to embellish it. I also made monthly dividers and this box is big enough to hold two years worth of carded memories.

We started this weekend and so far off to a great start. You could make this box and give it as a gift to a friend or family member, do with your school class, start one for yourself-quicker than journaling (you could put a few days on one card), etc.

And who doesn't love a good craft project?!?!? :)

Have a great day!

  5. I read that magazine too and we strated a memory book! We bought a binder that the kids decorated and just use loose leaf paper, each page has a day, so we just label the year and write our memories down. It has been so fun and it fits right on the bookshelf in the dining room! I wondered if anyone else thought it was a great idea! :)
